Just a few weeks ago, I interviewed a pastor named Mark Biltz. Through his own research, he discovered an interesting series of lunar eclipses in 2014 and 2015 that will fall on important Jewish feast days, according to the Hebrew lunar-based calendar. If you missed the interview you can check it out here.
Since my discussion with Pastor Biltz, I must admit that I have been provoked to upgrade my understanding of what the Bible refers to as the “last days.” As a student of eschatology (the study of the endtimes) for over 20 years, I have spent a lot of time thinking about the Bible’s prophetic texts. In many ways the prophecies are like a maze or a riddle that must be solved. Only the meek and lowly can discern God’s most intimate secrets. Nevertheless, God always informs His people prior to taking an action that has ramifications upon mankind.
“For the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)
When the final days of God’s judgment upon this earth commence, He will have already alerted those “who have ears to hear.” Many in God’s remnant church have reported having strong spiritual sensations that we are entering those final days now.
For those who remain unconvinced, check this out.
After seeing this report, I immediately googled, “comet november 2013.” I quickly found information on this comet. It is called Comet ISON, also known as C/2012 S1 (ISON). It was discovered on September 21, 2012, and appears to be on a trajectory that is heading right towards our Sun.
According to NASA, the comet will be 15 times brighter than the moon in the night sky, and visible in broad daylight. The comet’s enormous tail, visible in the night sky, could create a worldwide sensation.
While researching, I learned that Comet ISON was projected to either impact our Sun (or hopefully just graze it) on November 28, 2013.
So like Pastor Biltz, I decided to check this date with the lunar-based Jewish calendar just to see if that day had any significance. I was surprised to find that November 28, 2013 marks the first day of Hanukkah 2013, according to the Hebrew lunar-based calendar.
So what is God proclaiming to His people right now through these signs in the sky?
Admittedly, I do not know the meaning of this connection. I just discovered it two days ago and just now had a chance to post this piece online to hopefully spark a discussion.
What I do know is that, all throughout the Bible, God operates on a lunar-based calendar. This is the same calendar adopted by the Jewish people. Perhaps there is no deeper meaning. If you have thoughts or comments, please leave them below this article.
Finally, astronomers have noted that Comet ISON may be very similar to the Great Comet of 1680 — also known as “Newton’s Comet.” (Quick Note: It is called Newton’s Comet because it was used by Isaac Newton to test and verify Kepler’s laws.) This 1680 comet was the first one to be visibly discovered by telescope. It too was reportedly visible in broad daylight and had a spectacularly long and wide tail that lit up the night sky.
Below are some pictures and drawings portraying eyewitness accounts of the Great Comet of 1680.
It looks like we are going to get quite a show in the heavens this November!
